Over the years I have acquired quite a lot of names associated with VAL-4. Some came from the on-line roster we have here. Some came from the Closing Ceremony Program and some from roster of Officer names established at the first two reunions. But by far the most came from a Freedom Of Information request I made a few years ago. What I got was about 80 pages of names of people that were photocopied from microfilm. Many parts of these pages are illegible or very hard to read. But from all these sources I have compiled three rosters, the current "on-line" roster of present names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses. And one list of Officers names and one of Enlisted names from when the squadron was in commission.

The current on-line list has about 130 Officer names, my new listing has 157 names. The new list of Enlisted personnel has 507 names.

The lists I received from the Navy consist of BUPERS Enlisted Distribution And Verification Reports (EDAVR), NAVPERS Officer Distribution Control Reports, a promotion list, and some pages called "Personnel Diary". The Enlisted list gives last, first, and middle names where known. Rate, the source of the name, and the date of the document I took the name from which gives an approximate date of when that person was in the squadron.

The Officer list gives the name and sometimes a remark that was on whatever document I took the name from.

I hope these names might stimulate some brain cells so that we can find the location of a few more squadron members before the October reunion.
